Policing in Bihar State is more than 3000+ years old. There are documented past articles to policing systems utilized by the Magadh Empire.

Policing in the New time in Bihar started in 1862 with the dedication of the Bihar Police Department Act of 1861. Following the work of the region of Bihar in the year 1912, the primary structure of Bihar police as it lives today in the amount of India was laid. There have been some officers of the Bihar region in pre-independence India who have done pioneering offerings to policing in Asia. To name a few; Shri AK Sinha, Mr. Walter Swain of Swain Beat system fame, the 1st Indian to enhance an IGP of any area, Shri BN Mullick, Bahadur Azizul Haque, the author of the Intelligence Bureau (IB) and DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) charged with the primary growth of the fingerprint analysis system, the famous ‘1024 pigeon holes’ government system finally named after his director, Sir Edward Richard Henry leaps immediately to the brain.

Bihar Police takes the legacy of a strong tradition with the presentation of innovative controlling and good practices such as the production of a Police Hospitals, Police Welfare fund, and PIR (Police Information Room) in the year 1952. A Police Commission was also set up in the year 1958, whose charge was to make the police closer to all people. In the year 1967 Bihar Policemen’s Association came into existence. Today, Bihar police, with the help of the people that it is mandated to work and its rich cultures of perfection is firmly bound to surmount and confront the various difficulties it faces.
