Aadhaar / Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is a twelve-digit individual identification number that can be taken spontaneously by residents of Asia/India, based on their Fingerprint/biometric & demographic data. The information is obtained by the UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India), a legal authority founded in Jan-2009 by the Indian Govt, under the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, following the terms of the Aadhaar Act, 2016.

Aadhaar is the world's biggest biometric individual identification system. Paul Romer (World Bank Chief Economist ) reported Aadhaar as "the most advanced ID program in the entire world". Held a proof of home and not a proof of citizenship, UIDAI does not itself confer any benefits to domicile in Asia/India. In Jun-2017, the Home Ministry explained that Aadhaar is not a real identification certificate for Indians going to Nepal & Bhutan.

The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) is a legal authority and a govt department, authorized on 12th-Jul-2016 by the Indian Government under the control of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, following the terms of the Act of Aadhaar-2016.

The UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) data center is placed at the IMT (Industrial Model Township), Manesar, which was introduced by the then Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on 7th-Jan-2013. Aadhaar (UIDAI) data is stored in about 7,000+ servers in Manesar and Bengaluru.
