Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) was a legal body formed on 1st Feb1959 under the Electricity Supply. Afterward with the re-organization of the preceding State of Punjab under the Punjab Re-organization Act 1966 this organization came into existence with effect from 1st May 1967.
Govt. of Punjab divided Punjab State Electricity Board into 2 companies as Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd. (PSPCL), Punjab State Transmission Corporation Ltd. (TRANSCO).
Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd(PSPCL) was introduced as a company on 16-04-2010 and was assigned the responsibility of managing and support of the State's own generating projects and distribution system. The business of the Generation of power of preceding PSEB was transferred to Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd.

Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd(PSPCL) vision is to be a vibrant, responsive and self-reliant institution. The mission of PSPCL is to pursue the value-based customer-centric approach. Aim for great operational parameters on safe commercial principles.
Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd has an Organisational setup which includes Chief Managing Director, under him, there are other positions such as Director Generation, Director Distribution, Director Commercial, Director Finance, Director Human Resource, Admin Directed who is nominated by the Government. and also PSPCL is into many fields which include Commercial, Material Management, S & D Patiala, Metering, Planning, Enforcement Wing, Human Resource Development, RE & APDRP, System Operation and Communication(SO & C), Chief Accounts Officer, Chief Engineer / IT, Chief Auditor, Financial Advisor, CAO Revenue, Cost Controller, Audit and Inspection, Senior Engineer, Public Relations Department, Legal Advisor, Chief Engineer/Power Purchase & Regulation, Chief Engineer/Civil Design & Construction, Industrial Relations Department, Health, Enquiry, Forum for Redressal of grievances of the Consumers, Jt. Punjab State Electricity Board (PSEB) was a statutory body set on 1-2-1959 below the Electricity Supply Act,1948. Finally with the re-organization of the former State of Punjab under the Punjab Re-organization Act 1966 this order came into existence w.e.f. 1st May 1967.
The thermal power station at Goindwal Sahib acknowledged on 26 May 2009. The establishment stone had been laid and the company has initiated the construction.
Since their installation, all the power Stations operated at their best, plant load factor. The 1980 MW (3x660) Talwandi Sabo Power Project bestowed to M/s Sterlite Energy Ltd.  Power purchase contract with M/S GVK for installing 2x270 MW.  kdfsfds Net Power generated during 2008-09 is 37222 Million units, which is more than 2006-07 by 2238 Million Units resulting in a 6.40% increase in two years.  Mumbai on 4.7.08 and PPA approved on 1.9.08.

Innovative technologies like antique control of transformers automated meters, HVDS system for AP/ Industries introduced remote and meter reading. General/ Industrial Consumers shifted out of their premises as on 31.3.09 to curb the stealing of energy to 20.29 lakh meters out of 55.98 lakh. All these actions have helped in diminishing losses by 4% from 23.92% (2006–07) to 19.91% (2008–09) / which resulted in a substantial increase in revenue.  capacity at 132 number Grid substations grew beside the addition of 1070 circuit km and During 2007-09, 62 numbers New Grid substations erected. Synchromesh line and 149 MVAR shunt capacitors over State Grid.
